Rolling Over

May 22nd, 2009 by Adam (Mason, Reid)

Reid is now 3 months old!  How time flies.  Everyone here is doing well, we are enjoying all the nice weather we are having, and in western PA there isn’t that much nice weather is seems like.

Reid rolled over yesterday for the first time!  We think he was a little shocked as he didn’t seem too happy about it.  Once he realized what he had done though I think he thought it was cool.  He seems to enjoy “tummy” time a little more now too, although it might be too early to tell.

We also bought Mason a Pow-Pow-Power Wheels and it arrived yesterday.  We’re calling it an early birthday present.  We figure it was better to get him it now so he can enjoy it all summer rather than just the end of the summer.  Plus once Reid gets a little older he can ride too!  I hope to get it put together tonight after work so he can start terrorizing the neighborhood with it.  He seems REALLY excited about his new F-150.  We will try to get some pictures up soon.

I know, I know we have been really bad about posting pictures.  We promise to try to do better.  Without furthur ado…..

Crazy Day

March 28th, 2009 by Adam (Mason, Reid)

Yesterday started off great, like most other days. Reid and Mason were doing good, dad had to go to work while mom and the boys played at home. We had Reid’s one month checkup.

First, the checkup, which went well! Reid is now officially 10.54 pounds and 21.75″ long. His collarbone is fully healed now as well.

The next part of the day was pretty normal too. Reid eating, sleeping, and pooping. Mason playing, reading books, and being imaginative.

Then 4:15pm came.

Mason has a large Lighting McQueen plastic car. He likes to push it around. He starts off in the kitchen and pushes it as fast as he can until he gets into the living room. Normally this is no big deal, but yesterday Reid was sitting on the floor looking at the light and fan, which he loves to do. Mason accidentally ran his McQueen car, at full Mason speed, into Reid’s left temple on his head. Of course Reid was not real happy and started screaming. Jess called the Dr and they told us to watch out for vomiting and/or unresponsiveness. At 5:30pm he had been asleep for a bit and after about 25 minutes of us doing everything we could to get him to wake up, he wouldn’t. We changed his diaper, tried to nurse him, splashed water on his face, showered him with kisses, tickled his toes/legs, nothing would wake him up. So, off to the ER.

At the ER when they hooked up the monitor he started to finally wake up. He nursed good, and from that point on seemed like his usual self. The hospital did a skull x-ray, which came back with no fracture. A few hours later and we were released.

Last night went pretty normally and so far he has been acting like his usual self. We are guessing that he was just really tired. It was just bad timing with what had happened. We never really are trying to wake him up, usually we WANT him to sleep! I guess when he is really tired, he is REALLY tired!

We will keep an eye on him just to be safe, but so far it looks like it was just a case of Mom and Dad being overly cautious.

Almost one month….

March 16th, 2009 by Adam (Mason, Reid)

We are just short of one month and thought we would post an update as to how it has gone. Reid is a very good eater. We won’t know “officially” until his Dr Appt on the 27th, but using the patented daddy on the scale with and without Reid method, we estimate his weight at 10.2 pounds. That would be almost 3 pounds he has gained in the last 3 weeks!

Sleeping has been good and bad. Reid seems to sleep in decent chunks (3-4 hours), but at times he just wants to be awake. Unfortunately for Jess that has been overnight many times. That isn’t to say he doesn’t have his good days too where he just gets up to eat and then goes right back to sleep, but that has not been consistent either.

Mason seems to do pretty good with Reid. He tried to share his new matchbox cars with him yesterday. Obviously Reid couldn’t grab the car and hold it, but Mason kept trying. Mason mostly understands that he needs to be gentle around Reid, but every now and then he does still get a little rough. Luckily we are always around when this happens.

We go to the Dr for his appt on Friday, March 27th. We should know for sure that his collarbone is healed then. He has not been favoring it for about the last week, so we think it isn’t bothering him anymore. Hopefully we are right!

Reid’s First Doctor’s Appt

February 23rd, 2009 by Adam (Reid)

Reid went to the doctor today for the first time.  His weight is currently 7 lbs 6 oz, length is 19.5″, and head is 33 cm.  Not sure why the length is half an inch shorter than his birth length, but maybe it is just that they were wrong initially.  His weight had dropped to 7 lbs 4 oz when we left the hospital, so it is good that it is going back up!

His broken collarbone seems to be healing well so far, should be another week or so before it is fully healed though.  He also has a little bit of jaundice, but the doctor said that since he is eating so well that we don’t really have to worry about that.

Reid is still nursing great and doing all the things he should be doing.  His sleeping patterns have not been too bad yet, but it is still early.  Time will tell how that goes.  Jess did put him in the crib last night and he seemed to do pretty good there!

Mason is adjusting, slowly.  We know all he wants is some attention, and that he kinda understands who/what Reid is, but at times he is still misbehaving.  It will take some time and hopefully he will come around soon.

Lastly, we want to say thank you to everyone for all the comments, emails, phone calls, and gifts that we have had over the last week.  It is nice to know that we have so many friends and family that shared in Reid’s birth.

At home…

February 21st, 2009 by Adam (Mason, Reid)

We left the hospital yesterday at about 1:15pm.  Aunt Casey brought Mason back down to the house later that afternoon.  Mason has been good and bad around Reid so far.  At times he is very loving and gentle and other times he is rough and throwing toys.  It is a work in progress.  We know he just wants attention, but at the same time we need to make sure that he doesn’t hurt Reid.

We think that Uncle Devin, Aunt Jamie, and cousin Nick are going to come visit later today, if the weather permits.  Grandma and Grandpa Miller are probably going to come too.  It will be nice to have a visitor.

Bill and Shirley from across the street have been nice too, Bill snowblowed the driveway yesterday and Shirley baked us a very yummy looking apple pie.

Reid has been eating pretty well still.  His weight did drop down to 7lbs 4oz as of yesterday, but the doctors were not concerned as he has been nursing well.  Last night he didn’t keep Jess up too much, but did want to eat frequently too.

First Broken Bone

February 19th, 2009 by Adam (Reid)

We got our first bit of bad news on Reid today. An x-ray confirmed that he has a mild midline fracture of his right collarbone. This happened during the birthing process. There isn’t much to do to treat it, just be careful and make sure he is moving the arm. It should heal naturally on its own in about two weeks.

I guess he will never be able to claim that he has never had a broken bone, since he was born with one.

Day 2 with 2

February 19th, 2009 by Adam (Mason, Photos, Reid)

Little Reid is doing great! He has latched right on and is nursing like a champ! Big brother Mason met him yesterday afternoon. We aren’t sure he fully understands who Reid really is. While he didn’t seem to mind him being here he didn’t seem super excited either. Mason seemed more interested in the giant fish tank in the lobby than anything else.
